Overview
Route
The route on the Wohlensee starts at the "Werkbucht" and leads under the new footbridge by the Bern Rowing Club boathouse, about 9 km to the finish line.
Rowers are not restricted to lanes. Depending on the state of the lake (aquatic weed, etc.) the organisers reserve the right to place buoys in the water. Attention must be paid to these buoys. Failure to observe this rule may result in disqualification.
Start
The boats are given a starting position according to their results in the previous year’s Armada Cup, with World Championship participants being given preference. Boats which report late to the start will be given a starting position at the back. Rowers should wear club colours. Starting numbers should be clearly visible on the rowers’ backs and the bow number firmly attached.
The participants row from the Bern Rowing Club boathouse to the start in the "Werkbucht". Men and women start at the same time (women on the portside of the field). Twenty-five boats start side-by-side at a time, and the next row follows two boat lengths behind. The referees guide the boats into their starting positions and start the race. The boats line up according to their starting number (nos 1-25 in the first row, nos 26-50 in the second row etc.).
Please be fair – do not push to the front at the start!
All boats should line up according to their starting number. Boats which start the race in the wrong row, push to the front or do not observe the instructions of the referees will receive a three-minute penalty and may face disqualification.
Starting numbers: These are allocated and distributed by the organisers. Starting numbers can be collected from the regatta office on the day of the race. Starting positions are allocated based on times and positions in the previous year’s race.
Finish
Lifesavers are positioned on motorboats along the race route to help rowers who get into difficulty. If a boat wants to overtake the one in front, the slower boat must give way.
Once they have crossed the finish line, boats must immediately row under the footbridge (Stägmattsteg) in order to avoid congestion in the finish area.
